Are you an antiques buff? If so, then we don’t have to tell you anything about the hit PBS series Antiques Road Show, or how gloriously pricey some of the items found in the closets, basements, and even walls of American homes turn out to be. There’s something irresistible about the prospect of finding what at first glance would appear to be trash, only to find out later that it is instead treasure.
Some people who shop for antiques do so because they collect a certain item that is no longer manufactured, or perhaps they favor a special china pattern or a certain silversmith’s work. Then, there are those people who shop for antiques in common garage and yard sales, hoping to stumble across a bad 1960s art class oil painting with a previously unknown original Picasso hiding underneath. Many people buy old looking pieces of furniture, then discover that they once resided in European palaces during the Renaissance.
